Scrap Metal Collection

June 2026
A Member's car boot filled with an impressive variety of scrap metal that is perfect for reclaiming and recycling.
Our dedicated club members enthusiastically gather all sorts of scrap metal—ranging from old appliances and discarded vehicle batteries to forgotten tools and other metallic items—for the purpose of fundraising. This collective effort not only supports our initiatives but also promotes environmental sustainability by giving new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste.
  • tools.
  • drink cans (Members bring bag fulls to meetings)
  • old appliances (collected from public)
  • bolts, nails & screws
  • old electric motors
  • car batteries etc etc etc
This is a lucrative contribution to our fund-raising efforts having yielded $3,097.50 NZD  for 2025-26 Kiwanis year.

Fund Raising Report
June 2025

  • We have had a few metal donation calls come in for Saturday.
  • We sold a trailer load of batteries and got $248.00 so far.
  • The tally for the white Elephant and car boot is up around $1,500.00 and I still have a lot to sell so we are doing the next car boot sale next month, (weather permitting. )
  • We are going to have another quiz day/night in October so look out for that. We will need a few raffle prizes so put aside anything new you are happy to donate.
I am thinking of organising a big fundraiser for around next March. Ideas welcome. I'm thinking along the lines of a variety concert: Pipe band, Kapa Haka, choirs, dance troop; Country singers.
  • Any ideas from the members welcome.
  • What are your thoughts on this?
  • Can we do it?
  • I thought maybe we could look at the Air Force museum so there is room for all these acts to get ready.
  • We will need a celebrity host.
Regards Helen

'Ladies Group' Social Outing

On Friday 2 May a group of 15 (which included two prospective women members) travelled to Templeton to visit the workshop of Costume Designer and WOW finalist, Tina Thomas (Carolyn’s daughter).

Tina very generously gave up her time to give us an insight into her work as a costume designer working in both theatre and film.  We also had a tour of her premises in the Innovation Park in Kirk Road Templeton.

We were all in awe of her talent and vision as she gave us the opportunity to get up close to some of the costumes she has made as well as passing on a few hot tips on how she creates some of her masterpieces.  We concluded our outing with lunch at the Golden Mile Tavern in Templeton.  A fun and informative time for all those who attended.
